Q: What is the Battery Park City Resiliency Project?
A: The BPCA Resiliency Project is a large-scale infrastructure initiative designed to improve storm resilience in Battery Park City. This project includes the creation of a storm-wall system and enhancements to the surrounding park areas.

Q: Why does this project matter for Battery Park Montessori?
A: The project will take place in close proximity to our school. While it aims to deliver long-term benefits to the neighborhood, including increased flood protection and improved outdoor space, there may be temporary disruptions to the surrounding sidewalks, patio areas, and overall noise levels as work progresses.

Q: When will major construction begin?
A: We do not anticipate major construction to begin before Spring 2026.

Q: How is the school advocating for student safety and minimal disruption?
A: Battery Park Montessori is engaging with BPCA leadership on a regular basis. Our school leadership is engaged directly with the BPCA President and select board members to discuss timeline, safety, and necessary actions for our school community.

Q: What safety measures are being considered?
A: These discussions are ongoing, but they include:

  • Handling and removal of excavated materials

  • Noise mitigation

  • Traffic and pedestrian safety around the site

Q: How will the project affect daily school life?
A: We anticipate intermittent noise and possible sidewalk and patio access disruptions as construction phases progress. We will adjust campus routines as needed to maintain a safe and nurturing learning environment.

Q: What are the next steps?
A: Our leadership team will continue to:

  • Stay in active communication with BPCA

  • Share planning updates following high-level meetings between our leadership team and BPCA board members

Parents will be notified immediately as new information or recommendations become available.  All communications emphasize our commitment to transparency and partnership with families as we navigate this project together.

Q: Where can I learn more information about this project?
A: Here are some links we can add that are from BPCA directly, that include information about the project and events to connect with the community.
