Language is an integral part of the ongoing curriculum and daily activities in our school. The interactions that young children have with literacy materials are critical in shaping brain development and are the building blocks for language, reading and writing development. Children learn language through materials that focus on rhyming, sequencing, and matching. In addition, the children use the classical Montessori materials such as the metal insets, the sandpaper letters and the moveable alphabet. Montessori materials provide a very hands-on way for 3-6 year olds to understand grammar through tools like noun sorting and punctuation nomenclature cards, grammar symbols, and fun analysis games. Since Montessori education is individualized, activities are matched to each child’s level.
